Mitsui put up great numbers this year (.712/.845/1.635) and has bat speed, but his tools don't match the statistics. He's sometimes too passive at the plate and is limited to first base, where he's a below-average defender with a below-average arm. He will likely wind up at Washington.

Whether Trevor decides to sign with the Rays or attend Washington, he is a tremendous athlete who will only get better as he matures. We see a bright future for this humble, well-rounded young man. Good luck, Trevor!!

ReplyDeleteTrevor is a great hitter! Nothing passive about his approach. He just waits for a good pitch to hit.( Ted Williams) As for his arm I've seen worse in pro ball that can't hit their weight. Scouts are pretty much full of it. They miss the mark a lot. Trevor can flat out punish a pitcher that puts a pitch in the strike zone. Plus he is a great young man. Good luck Trevor .David Clerget
ReplyDeleteTrevor isn't too passive at the plate...If you mean passive by getting intentionally walked and or seeing curves in the dirt all the time. Everytime he was pitched to he took advantage of it. He is the best hitter I ave ever seen at the high school level. Good luck Trev keep working hard and prove everyone wrong!

Out of curiosity, what does not make him the best high school hitter in the draft? His ridiculous amount of power to both sides of the field? His ability to hit in the clutch? The fact he had a .700+ avg? Or the fact that he had one of the greatest eyes in high school baseball and was able to take every pitcher deep into counts without striking out (which I guess you think is bad)...?

ReplyDeleteDisappointed that your organization blew it by not signing Mitsui. You guys spent 1.6 on Sale and your organization wasn't serious on a kid who has just as much power and is a better overall hitter.
