  1. In the VSL today Oscar Hernandez hit his org-leading 12th HR and Ismel Antunez stole his org-leading 22nd SB.

    Hernandez is a catcher (42% CS%) who is hitting .412/.511/.781 in 114 ABs with 13/19 BB/SO. Antunez is a CF hitting .240/.372/.322 in 121 ABs with 25/27 BB/SO.

  2. He went 3-4 today with another HR and 4 RBI.He is now up to .424 and 11 HRs!!! Does he come up to the Gulf Coast League team sometime this summer? Sure it's only the VSL, but his stats are almost video game like.

  4. I was referring to today's game, the rate stats were from yesterday, but I updated BBs and SOs. As far as moving to GCL, they have moved guys up before after the season started, but not too often. One problem is getting a visa. If they weren't planning on him coming to the US this year they probably haven't started the process, and if not, they won't get it done in time for this season.

Last good-hitting catcher out of the VSL was Omar Narvaez, who's in the GCL now. He never hit for the kind of power Hernandez is, but always had > .300 average and ~ .400 OBP. They waited until he turned 19 to bring him stateside.

So I don't think you'll see Hernandez in GCL this year. Amazing he's leading the whole org in HRs in about half the ABs of the full-season players. And he isn't just HR guy, good average, hits 2Bs and 3Bs too, doesn't SO much. Definitely THE GUY to watch in the VSL this year. Yoel Araujo is a hitter to watch in the DSL, big July 2nd sign from last year.
