Minor Moves: Thompson, Ekstrom

Sean McMann is reporting that Hudson Valley's Jake Thompson has been promoted to the Charlotte Stone Crabs.

In another roster move, the Tampa Bay Rays have optioned Mike Ekstrom to the Durham Bulls.

Thompson has spent his first professional season with the Renegades. He is 2-1 with a 1.35 ERA and 33 strikeouts in 10 apperances, 7 of them being starts. He was the Rays second round pick in the 2010 draft from Long Beach State.

Ekstrom has split the season between the Bulls and the Rays, playing 34 games for Durham and 9 for the Rays. He is a combined 5-2 with a 2.66 ERA and 47 strikeouts between AAA and MLB. The Rays clamed Elkstrom off waivers prior to the 2010 season. He was moved to make room for Wade Davis coming of the DL.

  4. With the rainouts who knows. Moore and Cruz should start the next 2 games, they were scheduled for the rainouts. Barnese is on the DL now also, not sure why.

  5. And congrats to Thompson. Last starter I can remember skipping low A was David Price, but that was a little different. It was the year after he was drafted (signed at the deadline) and he began the season at Vero Beach instead of skipping up from HV.

    Can anyone remember a pitcher who made it to high A in the year they were drafted?

  6. Congratulations to Thompson. However, I think that this move is to cover for Barnese this year and that Thompson will begin next year at Bowling Green.
