Alex Torres Named Southern League Pitcher of the Week

Alex Torres.  Photo by MiLB.Alex Torres was named the Southern League Pitcher of the Week for the week ending in August 29. Torres was 2-0 on the week and picked up 17 strikeouts in the two starts. The first was a six inning shut-out against Huntsville on August 24. Then on Sunday he followed up with a seven inning outing in which he only surrendered one run. Alex is now 11-6 on the season with a 3.33 ERA in 26 starts.

Torres joined the Rays organization in 2009 as part of the trade that sent Scott Kazmir to the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He was originally signed by the Angels as an undrafted free agent in 2005.

  1. I'd like to see Torres work out of the bullpen. It's the only way he will crack the big squad next year. Otherwise, he is trade bait.
