  1. I like this condensed version.

  2. Me too.
    But ...
Bulls are playing Norfolk, not Charlotte today

  3. Question: Who is this Enny Romero guy? I couldn't find anything about him, but he has come out dominating.

Also, is it possible to have a midseason scouting report thing or something. I am just curious to see if any of the starters stuff has progressed or anything like that.

    Thanks!

  4. Also, is there any way if Rogers keeps hitting well that he could be promoted before the end of the year?

  5. I was disappointed when Cody Rogers and Ty Morrison were placed on BG's roster. Why? We desperately need outfield hitting and fielding help in the Hudson Valley. Hopefully, it will get better as the season goes on.

  6. Romero is a nice sized (6'3") lefty the Rays signed out of the Dominican in June of 2008. He pitched for the DSL Rays in 2008 and the GCL Rays in 2009. He just turned 19 in January. The big improvement this year is cutting down the walk rate. He's still a little wild though, he's hit 5 batters and has a wild pitch in 20.2 innings for Princeton.

Can't update all the pitchers scouting reports, but if you are BA subscriber, and you really should be, you can get an update on Jeremy Hellickson here: http://www.baseballamerica.com/online/prospects/prospect-bulletin/2010/2610277.html

He's added two new pitches this season: a 2-seam fastball and a cutter. Last season he relied on three pitches: a 4-seam fastball, a changeup and a curveball.

  7. Nice condenced version. I was at the biscuits game last night and a couple things stood out to me. Henry Wrigley can flat out drop bombs. His first shot would have cleared the train if it were going by. Leslie Anderson is a little goofy looking. I thought he would have a little more muscle. He kind of looks like Fred Mcgriff the way he plays defense. He made a nice back handed play down the line to prevent a double. Drew Anderson just looks like a ball player. The fans only cheered when he came to the plate. Nevin Ashley handles the staff very nicely. He has a cannon for an arm. The ball park radar gun is 2 mph slow according to the scouts I sat next to. My favorite moment the entire night was Gorgan coming in for the save. This guy pumps mid 90's and really looks like a closer. Fun game!!!!

  8. Thanks Doug. yeah, I'm starting to get into prospects. For the most info and reports for the buck, which site should I subscribe too? I heard Baseball Prospectus is good.

  9. I've been with BA for about 20 years on and off, so that's where my loyalty lies. Quit reading BPro when the got into a legal fight with BaseballPrimer (now BaseballThinkFactory) over the BP thing, probably 10 years ago now. I really shouldn't go into all the reasons I dislike BPro or we'll be getting a cease and desist, so I'll stop. But I can assure you my opinion would include language you have never seen on this site before.

The BA guys are nice too, rather give them my $. And they are based in Durham, which makes them esp good for Rays fans. I get both the print and online, don't know if online only is great since the site layout frankly is hard to navigate. Sign up for an email newsletter and you'll get offers for subscription discounts, then buy. Once you're a subscriber you also get discounts on other things, like membership with the Baseball HOF, which I joined this year and have received way more than the cost. The HOF stuff isn't prospect related, but tons of cool stuff in the mail to read.

For free prospect stuff, John Sickels and Andy Seiler offer a lot, and check the 'Prospect Webring' above for team-specific info, such as oriolesprospects.com and Tony Lastoria's incredible Indians site. There should be more on the Webring coming out after the season, things have been in the works for a while, but I hope something actually materializes this winter.

Feel free to post other sites you guys find useful too.

Oh, and glad you like the new game wrapups layout. Jim and I had both been considering the change and we finally talked about it and Jim made it happen. The long stories in separate posts made it hard to have a conversation, hope this encourages the talk. Expect minor refinements over time, but I really like his first shot at it.

Also appreciate the local folks chiming in with their impressions from the games, really adds to things. Thanks Bob.

  11. Thanks Doug. I think I will try BA. How much content is there?

I love Sickel's and Seilers sites too, even though I don't have an account. Thanks for the info!
