Thursday's Scores and Highlights

Columbus Clippers 2, Durham Bulls 4
Dan Johnson and Jose Lobaton drove home 2 runs each. Justin Ruggiano and Alvin Colina were the only two players not to record a hit. Bulls offense struck out 13 times. Heath Phillips picked up the win and RJ Swindle the save. Swindle pitched 1 1/3 innings and recorded all 4 outs via strikeouts. The Bulls begin a series against Syracuse with Carlos Hernandez making the start.

Carolina Mudcats 11, Montgomery Biscuits 6
Leslie Anderson was 2 for 4 with a home run and 2 runs scored. Drew Anderson was 2 for 4 with a double. Chris De La Cruz was 2 for 5 with 2 RBI's. Emeel Salem was 2 for 5 with an RBI and a run scored resulting in his 28th multi-hit game of the season. Henry Wrigley was 2 for 5 with a double. Rashad Eldridge and John Matulia each drove home a run. Jake McGee suffered the loss. Jeremy Hall makes the start against Carolina on Friday.

Charlotte Stone Crabs 2, Clearwater Threshers 1 (11 innings)
Win snapped seven game losing streak. Matt Moore pitched 7 shut-out innings with 10 strikouts. Greg Sexton was 3 for 5 with 2 runs scored. Stephen Vogt was 2 for 4. Michael Sheridan drove home both runs. Zach Quate surrendered just his fourth run of the season in 32 apperances. Michael Jarman got the win. The series against Clearwater continues on Friday with Shane Dyer getting the start.

Quad Cities River Bandits 8, Bowling Green Hot Rods 7
Ryan Weigand was 2 for 3 with a home run, 4 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Gabe Cohen also had a homer and 2 RBI's. Brett Nommensen drove home a run. There were six home runs in the game, 2 by the Hot Rods and 4 for Quad Cities. Jake Sullivan suffered the loss. The Hot Rods face Quad Cities again on Friday with Kyle Lobstein making the start.

Hudson Valley Renegades 7, Staten Island Yankees 4
Philip Wunderlich was 3 for 5 with 2 doubles and a run scored. Robby Price and Burt Reynolds each had a double. Price, Steve Tinoco, Mayo Acosta, Reynolds and Brian Bryles drove home the runs. Nate Garcia picked up the win and Adam Liberatore the save. The Renegades begin a series on the road against Aberdeen.

Princeton Rays 7, Burlington Royals 3
Todd Glaesmann ended a double short of the cycle, going 4 for 4 with 2 home runs, a triple, 3 RBI’s and 4 run scored. Scott Lawson was 2 for 5 with an RBI. Jacob Partridge recorded the win. The P-Rays begin a road series against Bluefield on Friday.

GCL Twins 4, GCL Rays 6
Justin O'Conner was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Seth Henry plated two runs. Edward Dorville, Joel Caminero and Tanner Biagini each added an RBI. Reinaldo Lopez picked up the win and improved to 2-0. The GCL Rays play the GCL Orioles at home on Friday.

DSL Rays, DSL Pirates (postponed)
The DSL Rays hit the road for a game against the DSL Yankees.



VSL Reds 0, VSL Rays 6 (Game 1)
Roan Salas was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Franklin Paz was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Jonathan Quinonez had a three run homer. Luis Wilches earned the win.


VSL Reds 3, VSL Rays 2 (Game 2, suspended)
Game suspended with the Reds leading 3-2. The VSL Rays are off on Friday.

  1. Matt looked nasty last night. One thing I noticed is that he gets alot of his K's by expanding the zone and forcing the hitter to chase. He throws a bunch of high fast balls and the hitters at these lower levels bite. His nasty pitch is the curve. That thing has some serious break and it seems he can throw it for a strike whenever he wants. I was watching Hyatt for Clearwater throw and I saw some nice stuff out of him. He looked equally as impressive. I went home and looked his stats up and noticed he was third in the league in K's. Great game!

  2. I was very disappointed in our catcher yesterday. His throws to second were aweful. I mean bad. I thought it was Jake Jeffries behind the dish. I noticed the box this morning and it was Vogt. Thank god for that I was really hoping Jeffries was better. Vogt is obviously not going to make it as a catcher as he's listed as a DH on the official roster.

  4. Why is Roan Salas still in the VSL league? His stats the lat 2 years there have been terrific!!
