Rays Sign Baldelli to Minor League Contract

The Tampa Bay Rays have announced the signing of Rocco Baldelli to a minor league contract.

Baldelli was originally drafted by the Rays in 2000. He remained with the Rays until 2008. He spent the 2009 season with the Boston Red Sox organization. He rejoined the Rays organization in 2010 as a special instructor to the minor leagues.

Baldelli has been assigned to the Charlotte Stone Crabs of the Florida State League.

  1. Couldn't we find an older picture of Rocco?

  2. That was the head shot from MiLB.

  3. I saw Rocco take some BP a few weeks back in Bowling Green. His head was shaved so that indeed is an old picture. He is in very good shape and is a tall guy who looks like he has fine athletic skills. He roped the ball all over the ball park. I am sure he would have rather not struck out 4 times last night but I could see him helping the Rays.

  4. I got to see a little of the game last night and despite being 0 for 4, his swing looked solid. Great bat speed, just needs a little time to knock the rust off and get back to competition.

I am glad to see him back playing for the Rays, he has always been one of my favorite players.
