Sunday's Scores and Highlights

Syracuse Chiefs 0, Durham Bulls 5 ( 8 innings)
Omar Luna was 2 for 3 with a triple and a run scored. Dioner Navarro was 2 for 4 with a double and 2 runs scored. Elliot Johnson had a home run. Desmond Jennings and JJ Furmaniak also had triples. Richard De Los Santo earned the win and Joe Bateman the save. Virgil Vasquez starts on Monday against Syracuse.

Carolina Mudcats 5, Montgomery Biscuits 1
Biscuits have now dropped 5 of their last six. Henry Wrigley was the only Biscuit with multiple hits, going 2 for 4. Leslie Anderson drove home the lone run. Nevin Ashley was 0 for 3 with 2 strikeouts. Alex Cobb was charged with the loss. The Biscuits send David Newmann to the mound for Monday's game against Carolina.

Charlotte Stone Crabs 3, Clearwater Threshers 2 (Game 1)
Jake Jefferies was 2 for 3. Greg Sexton drove home 2 runs. Isaias Velasquez picked up the other RBI. Nick Barnese improved to 8-4 with the win and Zach Quate earned his sixteenth save.

Charlotte Stone Crabs 5, Clearwater Threshers 4 (Game 2)
The Stone Crabs swept the doubleheader, the series and the season series, the Stone Crabs were 8-0 against the Threshers this season. Greg Sexton went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI. Tim Beckham was 2 for 4 with a double, 2 RBI's and a run scored. Matt Hall was 2 for 3 with a double. Rocco Baldelli plated 2 runs. Joe Cruz earned the win and Brian Shouse the save. The Stone Crabs are off on Monday.

Cedar Rapids Kernels 7, Bowling Green Hot Rods 2
Julio Cedeno was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Kyle Spraker and Ryan Wiegand picked up the RBI's. The Hot Rods were 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position. Jason McEachern suffered the loss. The Hot Rods face Cedar Rapids again on Monday, Kirby Yates will start.

Aberdeen Iron Birds 5, Hudson Valley Renegades 2
Robby Price was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Philip Wunderlich drove home both Renegades runs. Renegades were 1 for 10 with runners in scoring position. Devin Fuller was the losing pitcher. The Renegades and Iron Birds do it again on Monday night.

Princeton Rays 18, Bluefield Orioles 9
Both clubs combined for 27 runs on 31 hits in the Sunday afternoon slugfest. The P-Rays had 3 triples and 3 doubles. Bryan Fogle was 4 for 6 with a double and 5 RBI's. Cesar Guillen was 4 for 5 with a triple and 2 RBI's. Kevin Kermaier was 4 for 5 with a triple. Ruben Contreras was 3 for 4 a double and 2 RBI's Hector Guevara was 2 for 6 with a triple. Jeff Malm and Scott Lawson drove home 3 runs each. Andrew Bellatti picked up the win, striking out 7 in the process. The P-Rays begin a series against Kingsport with Braulio Lara starting the opener.


GCL Rays (day off)
The Rays resume action at home on Monday against the GCL Red Sox.




DSL Astros 1, DSL Rays 2
Federico Eder was 2 for 3. Ariel Soriano and Hector Rodriguez picked up the RBI's. Hector Gomez was the winning pitcher and Roque Colon earned the save. The DSL Rays travel to face the DSL Indians on Monday.


VSL Rays 8, VSL Phillies 4
Nahum Hernandez was 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, a triple, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Franklin Paz was 3 for 5 with a triple and 2 RBI's. Roan Salas and Ismel Antunez also drove home runs. Luis Yendis got the win and Orlando Cabrera the save. The VSL host a doubleheader against the VSL Cardinals on Monday.

  2. If Beckham could just hit good consistently like he is now and K less, I would like him much more. I still think Posey woulda been the better pick whether he was hitting the way he is now or if was only hitting .150 in MLB.

  3. If Beckham can make Aug = July, He is going to change a lot of valuations on him. We'll see.
