Wednesday's Scores and Highlights

Durham Bulls (day off)
The Bulls return to action on Thursday night against Charlotte.



Montgomery Biscuits 6, Carolina Mudcats 4
Shawn O'Malley was 2 for 4 with a triple, 2 runs scored and a stolen base. Matt Sweeney broke the tie in the seventh with a two run homer, finishing 2 for 4 with a homer and 3 RBI's. John Matulia and Nevin Ashley each drove home a run. Heath Rollins picked up the win. Matt Gorgen recorded the save with a perfect ninth, striking out 2 of 3 faced. The Biscuits face Carolina on Thursday with David Newmann making the start.

Charlotte Stone Crabs 3, Brevard County Manatees 1 (10 innings)
All scoring in the game took place in the extra frame as both clubs dueled through nine scoreless inning. Chris Murrill plated the go ahead run in the tenth and was also the only Stone Crabs with multiple hits by going 2 for 5 with an RBI. Nick Barnese pitched 6 scoreless frames with 7 strikeouts. Neil Schenk followed with 2 more scoreless innings. Zach Quate picked up the win. The Stone Crabs face off against Brevard County again Thursday with Joe Cruz making the start.

Bowling Green Hot Rods 6, Burlington Bees 7
Ryan Wiegand was the only Hot Rod with multiple hits, going 2 for 4 with a double, home run, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Mark Thomas was 1 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Cody Rogers delivered a solo home run. Julio Cedeno also picked up an RBI. Jason McEachern suffered the loss. The Hot Rods face Burlington on Thursday with Kirby Yates on the mound.

Williamsport Crosscutters 3, Hudson Valley Renegades 0
Robby Price, Philip Wunderlich, Diogenes Luis and Chris Winder were the only Renegades to record hits with Winder having the only extra base hit. The Renegades offense struck out 11 times. Devin Fuller was charged with the loss. Renegades face Williamsport again on Thursday.

Bristol Sox 1, Princeton Rays 5
Scott Lawson was 2 for 4 with a homer, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Hector Guevara was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Todd Glaesmann was 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored. Andrew Bellatti earned the win, striking out 5 in 6 innings. Mickey Jannis recorded the save. The P-Rays rematch against Bristol on Thursday with Braulio Lara on the mound.

GCL Rays 8, GCL Red Sox 5
Justin O'Conner was 2 for 3 with a homer, 3 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Joel Caminero was 2 for 4 with a run scored. Jhonthan Gomez was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Seth Henry was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and an RBI. Jose Molina picked up the win and Shane Minks the save. The GCL Rays return home to face the GCL Red Sox on Thursday.

DSL Rays 8, DSL Astros 9 (12 innings)
Hector Rodriguez was 3 for 6 with a double, home run, 3 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Julio Medina was 4 for 6 with a double and 2 RBI's. Jose Lafontaines was 1 for 5 with 2 RBI's. Ariel Soriano was 2 for 6 with an RBI and run scored. Carlos Cedeno suffered the loss. The DSL Rays face the DSL Indians at home on Thursday.

VSL Tigers 1, VSL Rays 4
Nahum Hernandez was 2 for 3 with a double. Oscar Hernandez was 1 for 4 with a home run and 2 RBI's. Ronald Acosta was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored. Hugo Duarte threw 4 innings and struck out 6 while only allowing 1 earned run. Yerwin Sanchez picked up the win and Orlando Cabrera the save. The VSL Rays hit the road to face the VSL Reds on Thursday.

  1. What can you tell me about Zach Rosscup and the plans for him moving forward? Why the demotion to the GCL after he pitched well last year at Princeton? At 22 I would have thought that he would have moved up instead of back.
