Saturday's Scores and Highlights

Durham Bulls 5, Syracuse Chiefs 1
Bulls win three in a row. Justin Ruggiano was 3 for 5 with 2 double, an RBI and 2 runs scored. Elliot Johnson was 3 for 5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Jose Lobaton was 2 for 3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Dan Johnson had a solo home run. Jeremy Hellickson won his twelfth game, striking out 9 in the process. The Bulls face Syracuse again on Sunday with Richard De Los Santos making the start.

*Note: The game time for Sunday's game has been changed to 7:05 due to forecasted excessive heat.

Carolina Mudcats 5, Montgomery Biscuits 6
Snapped four game losing steak with win on Saturday. Leslie Anderson was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored. Emeel Salem was 2 for 5 and drove home the game winning run. Henry Wrigley also picked up an RBI. Dan De La Rosa earned the win. Alex Cobb starts on Sunday when the Biscuits play Carolina.

Charlotte Stone Crabs, Clearwater Threshers (postponed)
The game was postponed due to heavy rain in Clearwater. The Stone Crabs will play a doubleheader on Sunday.



Cedar Rapid Kernels 3, Bowling Green Hot Rods 5
Tyler Bortnick was 2 for 3 with a run scored. Bennett Davis was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and a run scored. Dustin Biell was 2 for 4 with an RBI. Cody Rogers was 2 for 5. Mark Thomas and Ty Morrison each drove home a run. Tyree Hayes was the winning pitcher. The series continues on Sunday with Jason McEachern getting the start.

Hudson Valley Renegades 4, Aberdeen Iron Birds 5
Derek Dietrich was 2 for 4. Steve Tinoco was 2 for 4 with an RBI and a run scored. Philip Wunderlich had a solo home run. Nick Schwaner also drove home a run. James Patterson made his debut, pitching a scoreless inning. Omar Bencomo was charged with the loss. The Renegades take on Aberdeen again on Sunday.

Princeton Rays 3, Bluefield Orioles 8
P-Rays trail 2-3 in the Mercer Cup competition. Kevin Kiermaier was the only player with multiple hits, going 2 for 4 with a triple. Todd Glaesmann had the only other extra base hit with a double. P-Rays were 2 for 12 with runners in scoring position. Mickey Jannis gave up 6 runs in 1 1/3 innings and was charged with the loss. Andrew Bellati takes the mound when the P-Rays face Bluefield again on Sunday.

GCL Orioles 9, GCL Rays 0 (Game 1)
Alexander Diaz and Luke Bailey had the only hits for the Rays and neither one made it past first base. Robinson Reyes gave up 4 runs in 1/3 of an inning. Eduar Quinonez suffered the loss.


GCL Rays 2, GCL Orioles 3 (Game 2)
Ryan Brett was 2 for 3 with a run scored and a stolen base. Juniel Querecuto and Luke Bailey picked up the RBI's. Unlike game one, the Rays put runners in scoring position, but couldn't drive them home going 1-10 with runners in scoring position. There were no extra base hits in the game by the Rays. Jose Molina was the losing pitcher. The GCL Rays are off on Sunday.

DSL Rays (day off)
The DSL Rays play the DSL Astros at home on Sunday.



VSL Pirates 0, VSL Rays 12
Ismel Antunez was 3 for 4 with a double, home run, 3 RBI's, 2 runs scored and 2 walks. Franklin Paz was 3 for 3 with a home run, 2 RBI's and 3 runs scored. Ronald Acosta was 3 for 5 with an RBI and 2 runs scored. Leopoldo Correa was 2 for 4 with an RBI. The Rays had 15 hits and drew 9 walks during the game. Yerwin Sanchez improved to 5-0 with the win. The VSL Rays hit the road for a game against the VSL Phillies.
