  1. Haven't been around this weekend so this may have been mentioned elsewhere, but the Rays made an international signing, reportedly for $800,000. Press release:

ST. PETERSBURG, FL- The Tampa Bay Rays have signed free agent Yoel Araujo (pronounced Joel A-ra-oo-hoo), a 16-year-old outfielder from the Dominican Republic.

The 6-3, 190-pound right-handed hitting Araujo will participate in the Rays instructional league this fall and will be assigned to the Rays academy in the Dominican Republic in 2011. Araujo is from San Pedro de Macoris.

"He has the potential to be an outstanding all-round player," said Eddy Toledo, the Rays director of operations in the Dominican. "For a guy his size he has great speed to go along with home run power and a solid arm. We believe he can develop into a five-tool type player. He's young, but not easily intimidated."

"This is truly the result of tremendous teamwork within our international baseball operations staff," added Toledo, who credited Carlos Alfonso, the Rays director of international operations and scout Danny Santana for their part in the signing of Araujo.

  5. There may be some fallout movements that have taken place that has not been reflected on the web. These transactions were recieved by a press release from Bowling Green, who are really good about updating roster changes. Some of the other affiliates are slow, if at all. Plus the reliability of the MiLB transactions list is not that great.

  6. I wouldn't be surprised to see Nick Schwaner, 3rd base, from HV move up to Bowling Green. Seems to be HV's strongest player, and BG is weak at 3rd base. Plus,I believe Cedeno is on the DL at the present time.

  7. I wish ELI SONOQUI the best. He is a wonderful young man, who gave his all to baseball. Unfortunately, he was released this week. Good Luck Eli.

  8. Bowling Green needs a first baseman. With Eli leaving there is no one to backup Wiegand.

  9. Maybe Phil Wunderlich or Steve Tinoco from HV will move up to play 1st? Although, it would be a crime to make either Wunderlich or Wiegand a backup. Mayo Acosta was sent to HV to get more catching time. Meanwhile, Torres has hardly caught because of that move. Is TB giving up on Torres or has another logjam been created at the catching position?

  10. Surprised to see Cody Rogers moved to Bowling Green. HV's outfielders could really use some help- (hitting and fielding)

  11. I am surprised about Rogers also, unless they plan on moving one of the out fielders to first base backup. I think a year at HV and then to BG next year would benefit both teams.

  12. Rogers is doing pretty well so far in his debut, 3-3 with a HR, 2B and single, 3 RBI.

  13. Hasn't Francisco played some first? At least good enough to back up Wiegand?

  14. Francisco has played first at least once about a week ago.

Rogers has two homers, a double and single in his first game. What can he do for an encore?
