Alex Torres Added To Futures Game Roster

Per a tweet from Jonathan Mayo, Alex Torres will be joining Desmond Jennings and Jeremy Hellickson in the Futures Game, although Torres will be on the "World" team. Kyeong Kang represented the Rays on the World team in the Futures Game last year.

  2. This is a futures game, not an organizational filler game.

  3. Organizational filler....kinda harsh don't you think. Wrigley is one of the best hitters in the organization right now. Only one swinging a hotter bat is Dan Johnson. Wanna call him an organization filler.

  4. I would not consider Wrigley an organizational filler. He as what it takes to make a break. We has refined his hitting approach and it shows in the stats column. Watching him play in Charlotte at the end of last season and the start of this season, you can see the improvement in his game.

He has been the first promotion this season that the performance transferred with the promotion. When he moved to AA, he continued to perform. Unlike those promoted before him who saw a decrease in production or inconsistency of production, Wrigley had kept his momentum despite the higher level of play.

The thing that bothers me most is the organization. Does he have it to make it to the bigs as a Tampa Bay Ray, I can't be sure on that one. Everything is subject to change but right now, I can't even project a spot to put him in at the MLB level. Throughout the years, I have seen this happen a bunch to players that I thought could be MLB players, they couldn't make the break where they were, got traded and became everyday MLB playing material.
