5/15: The Rundown

Durham Bulls 11, Louisville Bats 6

Notes: Durham improved to 20-14... Carlos Hernandez put the Bulls in a 5-0 hole, but the Bulls tied it with 5 in the 3rd inning and scored 3 more in the 4th... Hernandez wound up with the win, allowing 5 earned in 6 innings. He struck out 8 and walked 1... Jason Isringhausen allowed a run in his inning of relief... Dale Thayer struck out 2 in a scoreless 9th... Reid Brignac, Jon Weber, Justin Ruggiano(3), Chris Richard, and Joe Dillon all had multiple hits... Ray Sadler hit his 4th homerun... John Jaso was 0-3. Matt Joyce had the night off...

Notes: Montgomery has won 4 in a row and is back at .500, 17-17... Jason Cromer went 7 innings and got the win thanks to two Biscuits runs in the 7th... Desmond Jennings was 1-3 with a double and a walk... Rhyne Hughes hit his 12th homerun. He drove in three...

Palm Beach Cardinals 2, Charlotte Stone Crabs 0

Notes: Charlotte fell to 18-14... Jesse Darcy allowed 2 runs in 6 innings, striking out 4 and walking 0... The Crabs got just three hits and didn't draw a walk... Ryan Royster had two of those hits, both doubles...

Savannah Sand Gnats 8, Bowling Green Hot Rods 1

Notes: Bowling Green fell to to 17-17... Matt Moore couldn't find the plate, walking 6 and allowing 4 runs in just 2.2 innings. He also threw two wild pitches... Chris Andujar(2), Tyree Hayes, and Marquis Fleming all allowed runs in relief... The Hot Rods also only collected three hits. They were no-hit through 6 innings...

Durham Bulls - OF Justin Ruggiano: 3-3 with two walks. He drove in three runs and is hitting .289/.429/.667 in May.

Montgomery Biscuits - 1B Rhyne Hughes: Went 2-4 including his 12th homerun of the season. He drove in three of the Biscuits four runs.

Charlotte Stone Crabs - OF Ryan Royster: Went 2-3 with two doubles on a dismal night for Charlotte's offense.

Bowling Green Hot Rods - None. Just a poor night all around.

Down
Durham Bulls - C John Jaso: The struggle at the plate continues, he went 0-3 again. Hitting .143 in May.

Montgomery Biscuits - None.

Charlotte Stone Crabs - The Offense: Only three hits. Ouch.

Bowling Green Hot Rods - LHP Matt Moore: He seems to have the stuff, but he's showing none of the control he did with Princeton last season.

  1. Does anybody know what Jason Cromer throws? The best thing I found on him is a 89-94 mph fastball. I think he should be moved into the bullpen because of the depth of starters the Rays have and that he might fit into the role nicely.

    Also checked his splits during the past four seasons and he has pitched better as a reliever than as a starter.

  2. no telling, but him having a history as a reliever may explain why he was pitching from out of the stretch the whole night
