5/21: The Rundown

Montgomery rallies, Charlotte finally plays, and the Hot Rods win in extras...

Notes: Durham starts a 4-game series in Lehigh Valley today.

Notes: The Biscuits improved to 21-19... Montgomery was down 3-0, but scored the last 6 runs(two in the 5th, four in the 7th)... Rhyne Hughes picked up three hits, while Brandon Chaves, Cesar Suarez, Fernando Cortez, and Drew Anderson had two hits apiece... Desmond Jennings was 1-4... Chris Mason got the win in relief of Ryan Morse... Eduardo Morlan pitched a scoreless 8th and Calvin Medlock got his 10th save...

Notes: Charlotte got a game in for the first time since Saturday and improved to 20-15... Alex Cobb got the start; he allowed one run in 7 innings on 7 hits. He struck out 4 and didn't walk a batter, dropping his ERA to 2.41... Matt Gorgen lowered his ERA to 0.50, pitching a scoreless final frame for his 7th save... Charlotte's runs didn't come until the 8th, when Matt Fields hit a sac fly and Cody Cipriano singled in the go-ahead run...

Notes: The Hot Rods improved to 21-18... Matt Moore was better, allowing two runs(one earned) in 4.1 innings. He did walk three... Bowling Green took a 2-0 lead early, the Gnats tied it in the 5th, and both teams were scoreless through the 9th. Each team tacked on a run in the 10th before Bowling Green won it in the 12th, scoring on a Mike Sheridan sac fly in the top half... Tim Beckham reached base four times, singling twice and walking twice... Kyeong Kang, Jason Tweedy, and Isaias Velasquez also had multiple hits...

Montgomery Biscuits - 1B Rhyne Hughes: Went 3 for 4, drove in two runs, drew a walk, and didn't strike out.

Charlotte Stone Crabs - RHP Alex Cobb: He doesn't do any one thing particularly well(he doesn't strike out a ton or generate a huge number of ground balls), but he does a lot of things well. He lowered his ERA to 2.41 with 7 strong innings.

Bowling Green Hot Rods - SS Tim Beckham: Showed some signs of breaking out of his slump, reaching base four times out of six plate appearances.

Down
Montgomery Biscuits - C Matt Spring: 0-4 with two strikeouts. Batting average at .185.

Charlotte Stone Crabs - C Nevin Ashley: Went 0-4.

Bowling Green Hot Rods - C Mike McCormick: 0 for 6. .162 average. Not a good night for catchers.
