Minor Moves: Hayes, Acosta, Phillips, Downs

Tyree Hayes
RHP Tyree Hayes has been assigned to the GCL Rays on a rehab assignment. The 21 year-old was our 8th round pick in 2006 out of Tomball High School in Texas. He started today's GCL game against the Twins, lasting only 1.2 IP and allowing 2 hits (including a HR), 2 earned runs, a walk and striking out one. Expect to see him in the Bowling Green or Charlotte bullpen once the rehab assignment is complete.

Catcher Mayo Acosta was assigned to the Hudson Valley Renegades from the Bowling Green Hot Rods. Not sure yet if the 22 year-old will really go to HV or if this is just a paper move. This season he's batting .237/.278/.288 in 118 AB's for the Hot Rods.

The Montgomery Biscuits have activated RHRP Paul Phillips from the DL.

LHP Darin Downs has been assigned to the Durham Bulls from the Montgomery Biscuits. Downs, 25, has been outstanding for this Biscuits this season, putting up a 1.69 ERA in 48.0 IP with 57 strikeouts to 15 walks. Big congrats to Darin and family on the promotion to AAA after coming back from a serious head injury at the end of last season.

  1. Acosta is playing today and played yesterday, so im guessing its not a paper move

  2. He's here to get more playing time- not a demotion. Wendt went up to Bowling green. Also, Bennett Davis moved to Bowling Green.
