Five Biscuits Named to Southern League All-Star Squad

The Southern League released its roster for the 2010 All-Star Game. Five Biscuits have been named to the roster, four pitchers and one position player. Drew Anderson, Darin Downs, Matt Gorgen, Jeremy Hall and Alex Torres have been nominated to play for the South Davison.

Anderson is hitting .293 this season with 2 double, 6 triples and a home run in 54 games. He was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2004 Draft and was acquired by the Rays in 2009. This is his second all-star nomination, being nominated to the Southern League All-Star game in 2007.

Downs was nominated to the squad but will not play due to a promotion to AAA. He was 6-2 with a 1.69 ERA in 18 appearances for the Biscuits. This is his third all-star nomination, being nominated in 2005 for the Northwest League and 2009 for the Florida State League. Downs was traded to the Rays in 2008 from the Cubs.

Gorgen is 3-2 with 14 saves and a 1.59 ERA in 28 appearances this year. He was drafted by the Rays in the 2008 Draft. He has been nominated to an all-star squad in every year of his professional career.

Hall will be making his first all-star appearance. He is 4-4 with a 3.01 ERA in 15 starts this season. He was signed by the Rays as an undrafted free agent in 2007.

Torres holds a 7-3 record in 15 starts with a 2.61 ERA. This is his second year with the Biscuits after being acquired by the organization as part of the Scott Kazmir trade last season. Torres will be making his second all-star appearance, being named to the California League team in 2009.

The 2010 Southern League All-Star Game will be held on July 12 at Joe Davis Stadium, home of the Huntsville Stars.
