Four Run Sixth Keys Biscuits Comeback

[Game recap from Joe Davis of the Biscuits.]

MONTGOMERY, AL – Matt Sweeney cleared the bases with a two-out double in the sixth, and the Biscuits (4-2) came from behind to beat the West Tenn Diamond Jaxx (2-4) 6-2 Sunday at Riverwalk for their third straight victory.

The fateful sixth inning began with three consecutive one-out singles for Nevin Ashley, Chris Nowak, and Leslie Anderson. Sweeney, against left-hander Edward Paredes, then doubled to right center to score all the runs and give the Biscuits their first lead of the day at 4-2. Chris De La Cruz added an RBI single in the inning, and Ashley notched an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the eighth.

The Jaxx scored first in the ballgame, getting at RBI double from Alex Liddi in the first. Chris Nowak singled home Emeel Salem in the bottom half to tie the game at one, but Nate Tenbrink would homer off Alex Torres in the fourth to put the Jaxx in front 2-1, their final lead of the day.

Jaxx starter Steve Bray (4-5) took the loss, allowing five runs on ten hits over six innings. Four of his five losses this season have come against the Biscuits. The win went to Heath Rollins (2-0), who tossed two scoreless in relief of Torres. Josh Satow struck out three over two in his Biscuits debut, and Sergio Espinosa finished things up with a perfect ninth inning.

Ashley, Nowak, and Anderson all recorded two hits for the Biscuits. Cody Cipriano’s hit- streak ended at eight games with an 0-4 performance.

The Biscuits now head to Mobile for six with the BayBears beginning Monday night at 7:05. LHP David Newmann will throw against Mobile’s LHP Tom Layne.
