Charlotte Stone Crabs Week in Review: 4/23-4/29

Charlotte Stone CrabsThe Stone Crabs had a great week by going 6-1 on the week which included a series sweep of the St. Lucie Mets. Charlotte Sports Park was particularly good for the Stone Crabs as they were undefeated at home during the week. The Stone Crabs improved their season record to 11-8 and are now in second place of the FSL South Division and are 1 game back from first place Fort Myers.

Hitting Leaders: Gregory Sexton saw his hitting streak come to an end this week but still leads the team with a .333 batting average.

Pitching Leaders: Darin Downs improved his record to 3-0 and still leads the starters with a 2.29 ERA. Matthew Gorgen and Rayner Oliveros hold a 0.00 ERA in relief, Gorgen with 5 appearances and Oliveros with 3. David Newmann leads the club with 21 K’s and is 7th in the FSL.

Team Stats: The Stone Crabs moved into 5th place in hitting with a .260 average. They are third in the league in doubles (32), third in triples (5), second in RBI’s (82) and fourth in stolen bases (25). The Stone Crabs continue to improve their team ERA by dropping to 3.77. They are second in the FSL with 152 strikeouts.

Transactions: Mark Thomas was added to the roster from Hudson Valley 4/29/09.

Injuries: None.

The Week Ahead: 4/30/09-5/3/09 at/vs Fort Myers (12-7), 5/4/09-5/6/09 at Jupiter (9-10).
