Durham Bulls Beat Charlotte 5-0

Durham Bulls[From the PR by the Durham Bulls, via email.]

Four Durham Bulls combined on Durham's third shutout of the week, and Reid Brignac's double broke a scoreless tie in the sixth as Durham (7-1) started a ten-game road trip with a 5-0 win over Charlotte. Brignac's double off Lance Broadway (0-2) followed a two-base hit by Jon Weber. Brignac moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Chris Richard's two-out double to make it 2-0 Durham in the sixth.

The Bulls tacked on a run in the seventh when Weber singled home John Jaso, who had doubled to right off reliever Adam Russell and moved to third on a sacrifice. Adam Kennedy capped the scoring in the eighth with a two-run homer off Russell after Richard had walked. It was the former ALCS MVP's second homer this week. Durham collected ten hits, two from Weber, Jaso and Elliot Johnson. That was enough for a stingy pitching staff that has three shutouts in eight games, and a 1.18 ERA.

Wade Davis, Jason Childers (3-0), Winston Abreu and Dale Thayer allowed a combined seven hits and two walks while striking out 10. Not a single Knights player advanced beyond second base. Davis did not go the five needed to earn the win because he reached his pitch limit.

Durham continues its road trip on Saturday at 7:15 against the Knights with LHP Carlos Hernandez (0-0) on the mound against RHP Carlos Torres (0-1). Coverage on 99.9 the Fan HD2 and www.durhambulls.com begins at 6:55, with first pitch at 7:15 p.m.
