Charlotte Stone Crabs fall to Bradenton Marauders 9-2

The Game: The Charlotte Stone Crabs offense was pretty much nonexistent during a 9-2 loss to the division leading Bradenton Marauder on Friday night at McKechnie Field. The Stone Crabs were held scoreless until the final frame of the contest in the battle of the league best pitching and hitting clubs.

The Stone Crabs fell behind early as Bradenton posted five runs in the second inning. Tony Sanchez led off the inning with a walk followed by a double by Jeremy Farrell. Calvin Anderson drove home a run with a single to right. Eric Fryer then hit a sac fly to score Farrell. Anderson advanced to third on a single by Erik Huber. Then Brock Hot singled on a line drive to score Anderson. Quincy Latimore drove home two runs with a single to center to give the Marauders a 5-0 lead.

Bradenton added to their lead in the fifth inning. Tony Sanchez delivered a solo home run to increase the lead to 6-0.

The Marauder offense continued to roll in the seventh inning. Quincy Latimore singled to left. Jeremy Farrell would later drive home the run with a double to center to give them a commanding 7-0 lead.

Bradenton added yet another run in the eighth inning. Brock Holt delivered a two run home run to right, increasing the lead to 9-0.

The Stone Crabs avoided the shut-out by pushing across two runs in the final inning. Stephen Vogt double on a line drive to lead off the inning. Henry Wrigley followed with a single to short. Kyeong Kang then singled to right to load the bases. Michael Sheridan drove home the first run with a single to left. Then Wrigley scored on a ground ball by Anthony Scelfo. But the Stone Crabs would leave them loaded and take a 9-2 loss.

Matt Moore suffered the loss, falling to 0-2 by allowing 6 runs on 6 hits with 8 strikeouts and 3 walks in 5 innings. Michael Jarman pitched 2 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and a walk. Tommy Rafferty pitched the final inning and allowed 2 runs on 3 hits with a strikeout.

Stone Crabs Player of the Game: Stephen Vogt; 2 for 4 with a double and a run scored, only Stone Crab to have multiple hits in the game.

Tim Beckham: 1 for 4, only Stone Crab not to strike out in the game.
Kyeong Kang: 1 for 4 with a strikeout.

A Look Ahead: The Stone Crabs (11-9) and Marauders (14-7) square off again on Saturday at McKechnie Field. Nick Barnese (2-1, 3.33) will pitch against Jeff Locke (2-1, 2.89).
