5/12: The Rundown

Toledo Mud Hens 5, Durham Bulls 4
Box | Recap
Notes: Durham fell to 19-14... Jeff Bennett returned to the rotation and allowed 5 runs in 4.2 innings... He replaced Aneury Rodriguez, who came in out of the bullpen. In 3 innings, he allowed no runs on 2 hits, striking out 7 and walking 2... Dale Thayer pitched a scoreless inning, striking out 2... Desmond Jennings went 1-3 with 2 walks and an RBI. He stole his 7th base of the year... Elliot Johnson had 2 hits and RBIs...
The Leftovers: Rodriguez out of the pen -- interesting idea. He struck out 7 in 3 innings, so perhaps his decent stuff plays up in relief where he doesn't have to worry about pacing himself...

Huntsville Stars 4, Montgomery Biscuits 0
Box | Recap
Notes: Montgomery fell to 17-14... Jake McGee got the loss, allowing 2 runs (1 earned) in 4 innings. He struck out 4 and walked 1. The 4 innings took 70 pitches... Emeel Salem, Chris De La Cruz, Chris Nowak, and Matt Fields each had one hit, the only four Montgomery had...
The Leftovers: Speaking of moving pitchers to the bullpen, I suspect it won't be long until we see Jake McGee moved there. His fastball isn't quite as strong as it was pre-surgery, but it's still a power pitch and would seem to make him suited for the bullpen...

Lakeland Flying Tigers 3, Charlotte Stone Crabs 0
Box | Recap
Notes: Charlotte fell to 17-13... Matt Moore showed better control, walking only 2 hitters in 6+ innings. He struck out 7, allowing 3 earned runs on 5 hits... Neil Schenk struck out 5 in 2 scoreless innings... Tim Beckham went 0-2 with 2 walks... Leslie Anderson was 1-3 with a walk... Matt Sweeney took an 0-4...
The Leftovers: For all of Beckham's struggles so far in 2010, he has walked 11 times in 21 games, a remarkably better pace than last seasons. If he can continue working the count and looking for better pitches to hit, his other numbers should rebound...

Bowling Green Hot Rods postponed, rain
Notes: Bowling Green and Lake County will play a doubleheader on Wednesday...
