Rochester Red Wings 4, Durham Bulls 3

Durham, NC – Rochester plated three runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a 3-1 Bulls’ lead and send the Red Wings on to a 4-3 win on Thursday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Rochester got on the board in the first inning when Jason Repko singled, stole second, advanced to third on a sacrifice fly then scored on a sac fly to make it 1-0.

The Bulls responded with a pair in the third inning when Desmond Jennings was hit by a pitch followed by Elliot Johnson’s double putting runners at second and third. Justin Ruggiano followed with a single up the middle scoring Jennings and Johnson to give the Bulls a 2-1 lead. Durham added another in the sixth inning when Angel Chavez singled to right field scoring Joe Dillon.

Rochester took the lead for good in the seventh inning when Danny Valencia walked and advanced to second on a groundout. Matt Macri and Repko both walked to load the bases before Matt Tolbert struck out swinging for the second out. Trevor Plouffe reached on an error by Bulls second baseman Angel Chavez allowing Valencia and Macri to score. Jose Morales then doubled to score Repko giving the Red Wings a 4-3 lead they wouldn’t relinquish.

RHP Kyle Waldrop (1-0) picked up the win in relief pitching two and one-third innings allowing no runs or hits while striking out four. LHP Jason Cromer, just activated from the disabled list today, took the loss in relief allowing three runs (none earned) on three walks and no hits.
