Biscuits Routed in Rain-Shortened Game

HOOVER, AL – The Biscuits (19-17) managed just one single, while the Barons (10-26) knocked out 14 base-hits in a 9-0 rain-shortened smashing of Montgomery Sunday at Regions Park.

Biscuits starter Jake McGee retired the first seven Barons hitters, then gave up back-to-back singles to Greg Paiml and Dale Molenhauer before recording the second out. Buck Coats then singled to put the Barons up 1-0.

For the second day in a row, a huge frame doomed the Biscuits. A walk to Brent Morel started the fourth inning for the Barons. Christian Marrero and Salvador Sanchez then singled to load the bases, and Cole Armstrong drove home two with a single to make it 3-0. Coats would knock home to with a single, Jim Gallagher scored one with a double, and Morel plated two with a double in his second at-bat of the frame to make it 8-0.

The Barons got one more in the fifth, with John Shelby III singling home Paiml.

McGee (0-3) took the loss in 3.2 innings worked, striking out five and walking one while giving up eight runs on ten hits. Darin Downs pitched the final 2.1 innings of relief, allowing a run on four hits while striking out three and walking one.

Matt Long (2-4) was spectacular for the Barons, facing the minimum through six and allowing only a Greg Sexton third-inning single.

The tarp was pulled on the field after the sixth inning, and the game was called official less than an hour later.
