Rays 14th Round Pick - 439th Overall: Zach Quate

Zach QuateHe's a senior college right-handed pitcher from Appalachian State. Looking for info.

Worked as a reliever, posted a 1.09 ERA and a 55-14 K-BB in 41.1 innings.

[Added by Doug] Full name is Zachary David Quate (pronounced quayt). Born on September 12, 1987, 6'1" 190 lbs. Was 2009 all-conference, from the school website:

Quate set an Appalachian record with 11 saves during the regular season and posted a miniscule 1.19 earned run average in 28 relief appearances. The senior stymied opposing batters to the tune of a .180 batting average against with 48 strikeouts and only 23 hits allowed in 37.2 innings of work. He was particularly dominant in the month of April, when he went 1-0 with eight saves in 13 appearances. He struck out 24 and allowed only eight hits in 16 innings of work, en route to being named the SoCon’s Pitcher of the Month.

  1. Quate is dominating the NYPenn league, and probably has the best shot to make the majors of anyone on the team. He has yet to allow an earned run this year and already has a major league slider

  3. does anyone know quates velocity on his fastball?Im guessing low 90s or high 80s but thats my guess

  4. went to highschool with Quate. played baseball with him and he didnt start pitching until his senior year. he will work his Tail off to get there and i know he will. Good luck Quater.
