The lone run of the game came in the bottoms of the third inning as Ryan Royster hit a solo home run, his first of the year. The homer gave the Stone Crabs a 1-0 lead in which they held to the end.
Darin Downs picked up the win by pitching 7 shutout innings only allowing 5 hits while striking out 10 and walking 3. Matt Gorgen recorded his 10th save of the season by throwing 2 no hit innings with 2 strikeouts.
What Went Right: Darin Downs; win puts him tied with fellow teammate Jeremy Hall with 7 wins, picked up a season high 10 K’s in his 7 inning shutout performance. Ian Paxton; 2 for 3 improving his average to .526 on the year. Emeel Salem; 2 for 4 with 2 triples.
What Went Wrong: Reid Fronk and Henry Wrigley; 0-3 with 2K’s each.
A Look Ahead: The Stone Crabs and Flying Tigers are back at it on Wednesday night at Charlotte Sports Park. Scott Kazmir (0-0) will get the start for the Stone Crabs in a MLB rehab appearance. He will be pitching against Lakeland’s Charles Furbush (4-3).
