Minor Moves: Hellickson, Baker

Montgomery Biscuits[Via email from the Montgomery Biscuits' broadcaster Jon Laaser.]

The Tampa Bay Rays have made the following moves affecting the roster of Double-A Montgomery prior to their series opener against Tennessee:

RHP Jeremy Hellickson activated from the Disabled List (Shoulder), RHP Brian Baker transferred to Hudson Valley (Short-A) roster [24 + 1]

Hellickson returns after missing seven starts to make the start in the series opener against the Smokies. He has not pitched since May 5th, when he left after two innings against Birmingham with a supra spinatus sprain in his right shoulder. He was 2-1, with an ERA of 2.10 in six starts prior to his placement on the Disabled List.

The corresponding moves keep the Biscuits at the Southern League maximum of 24 active players. One player (Jason Perry) is currently on the disabled list.

  1. I hope the move with Baker is just temporary, because he's pitched really well for Montgomery.

  3. What else is Brian Baker supposed to do? He's doing very well and has proven he can handle pitching at this level. Yet TB keeps playing these "games" with him. Could the reason be that he was a Free Agent and not a high draft pick?
