Durham Bulls Lose To Pawtucket Red Sox 4-3

Travis Denker’s RBI-single to left field plated Aaron Bates to cap a three-run fifth inning and give the Pawtucket Red Sox a 4-3 win over the Durham Bulls on Saturday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. A crowd of over 10,400 saw the Bulls lose their seventh in a row and 10th out of their last 11th.

Durham took an early 1-0 lead on Ray Olmedo’s RBI-single plating Rhyne Hughes. Pawtucket tied the game in the top of the third inning, then the Bulls took the lead in the bottom of the third on Jon Weber’s two-run homer to right field making the score 3-1 in favor of the Bulls.

In the fifth inning, Jeff Bailey walked, then Freddy Guxman singled to Rashad Eldridge to put runners on first and second. One out later, Aaron Bates walked to load the bases and end the night for Bulls starter Carlos Hernandez. Julio DePaula came in and immediately gave up a two-run single to Carlos Maldanado tying the game at three. Denker followed with his run-scoring single to end the scoring.

RHP Enrique Gonzalez (6-6) picked up the win allowing three runs on five hits and five and one-third innings. Hernandez (4-3) took the loss allowing four runs on four hits and six walks in four and two-thirds innings. Hunter Jones picked up his first save with two and two-thirds scoreless innings of relief.
