Rays Draft Picks: Rounds 41-50

Rays 41st Round Pick - 1241st Overall: Chris Rearick, LHP, North Georgia College & State University
Senior pitcher. 99 strikeouts/25 walks in 98 innings in 2010.

Rays 42nd Round Pick - 1271st Overall: Preston Overbey, 3B, University School Of Jackson HS(TN)
MLB.com video here. His swing kind of resembles Evan Longoria's. Rated #31 in Tennessee by BaseballAmerica.

Rays 43rd Round Pick - 1301st Overall: Ryan Hornback, C, San Jacinto JC(TX)
Rated #68 in the state of Texas by BaseballAmerica: "Hornback has soft hands and a strong arm, but the 6-foot, 170-pounder needs more strength as well."

Rays 44th Round Pick - 1331st Overall: Mickey Jannis, RHP, Cal State-Bakersfield
Senior arm. 65 strikeouts/35 walks in 98 innings in 2010.

Rays 45th Round Pick - 1361st Overall: Blake Freeman, LHP, Sunnyslope HS(AZ)
He has a website: www.blakefreeman.com with pictures and video. Can't find much else on him.

Rays 46th Round Pick - 1391st Overall: George Jensen, RHP, Des Moines Area CC
30-24 K-BB in 57 innings in 2010.

Rays 47th Round Pick - 1421st Overall: Hector Montes, 1B, Bonita Vista HS(CA)

Guessing he's got some power.

Rays 48th Round Pick - 1451st Overall: Blake Barnes, RHP, Howard College(TX)
Rated #34 in the state of Texas by BaseballAmerica: "If elbow tendinitis hadn't limited him to 23 innings, righthander Blake Barnes might have made a case for getting drafted ahead of Howard JC teammate Burch Smith. He showed a 90-92 mph fastball, touched 95 and displayed a true slider when he was 100 percent. There's still projection remaining in his 6-foot-2, 175-pound frame. He has committed to Oklahoma State for his junior season."

Rays 49th Round Pick - 1481st Overall: Paul Hoilman, 1B, East Tennessee State University
Rated #15 in Tennessee by BaseballAmerica: "East Tennessee State first baseman Paul Hoilman rivaled Kirby-Jones for gaudy numbers, batting .421/.526/.860 in dominating the Big South Conference. Hoilman has feel for hitting and has a mature approach against mediocre pitching, as well as the strength to hit for power with wood. He hit eight homers last summer in the New England Collegiate League. His athletic ability is modest and his defense, while improved, rates below-average."

Rays 50th Round Pick - 1511th Overall: Cory Maltz, RHP, Weatherford College(TX)
6'2" 200 pounds. Can't find scouting/stats

  3. Doesn't look like we'll be signing #42 Overbey:

    =======
    He said the Rays, who took him No. 1,271 overall, picked him to "draft and follow." Rays officials will evaluate Overbey this summer as he plays for a team based in Memphis. Tampa Bay and Overbey have until Aug. 16 to reach an agreement. Overbey said he would like a bonus of at least $400,000 to sign with the Rays.

    He has already signed to play in college at Ole Miss, and if he doesn't go pro, that is his plan. He would be eligible to be drafted again after his junior season. "It was a relief, finally," Overbey said. "Either way, there is no wrong choice. It comes down to money, I guess."
    =======

    I can't see the Rays giving a 42nd rounder 'at least $400,000', or anywhere close that. Unless he drops that amount considerably, enjoy Ole Miss.
