Justin Ruggiano’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the 11th inning completed the comeback for Durham as the Bulls beat the Toledo Mud Hens, 6-5 on Tuesday night at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.

Trailing 5-2 in the bottom of the ninth inning and one out, Rashad Eldridge walked before Chris Nowak blasted a two-run homer to left field to bring the Bulls within a run. One out later, Brandon Chaves walked to put the tying run on base. Jon Weber followed with a double to right-center field to tie the game at five apiece.

The game remained deadlocked until the bottom of the 11th inning when Jaso hit a one-out double to right. After Matt Hall entered the game to pinch-run for Jaso, Chaves walked to put runners on first and second. Weber struck out for the second out before Henry Mateo walked to load the bases and set the stage for Ruggiano’s heroics. His single to left field went off the Blue Monster easily plating Hall with the winning run.

RHP Winston Abreu (3-0) picked up the win in relief pitching an inning and two-thirds without allowing a run or hit while striking out four. RHP Ron Chiavacci took the loss allowing a run on three hits and two walks in one and two-thirds innings.

The Bulls and Mud Hens face each other again on Wednesday afternoon at 1:05 PM at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Tickets are available at www.durhambulls.com or by phone at (919) 956-BULL.
