Call For Ideas

This period between our prospect list and the affiliate rosters being named is pretty much a dead period, so is there anything you guys would like to see? And while we're here, what about features for the season? We have some ideas for then but are always open to more.

  2. Ditto to last comment. I will be in FLA next week watching the A-level games from April 1-3. If I can get anything I will pass it on.

  4. Thanks for the responses...

As far as minor league spring training game stats, those aren't really made available anywhere, so short of someone being there, they're hard to get. Tying into the second comment, if anyone does catch a game and wants to let us how guys did or how they looked, we'd love to hear from you.

As for up-to-date releases, we try to stay on top of that stuff and I think we've done pretty well. Was there anyone certain you had in mind that we've missed? We'll definitely be on the lookout for it as camp winds down and the seasons start.

  5. I'm working on the Minor league spring training stuff, we'll see. Just getting the overall roster was tough, I'll keep it updated with any moves. As far as past transactions, there currently in individual posts, but we'll make a sidebar widget with all of them, with links to the article with the details. In the mean time, if you type "minor moves" in the search bar at the top left, above the RaysProspects logo, you should get most of them. Use that search box for any topic or player name, it's really handy.

  6. I would like to see a five-up, five-down feature.

Whether it's weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly, it would be great if you had a feature that focused on whether or not a players has been hot or cold.

For instance, if Desmond Jennings mashes for two weeks, you would put him in the five up. If Reid Brignac struggles for a few weeks, you drop him. Obviously for each piece you would be focusing on a relatively small sample size, but it would be good to let Rays prospect followers to know which players are hot.

Just a thought. Also, you should do your own Player of the Month, Pitcher of the Month awards and it would be nice to see some interviews with some prospects or prospect analysts; Kevin Goldstein, Keith Law, .ect...

  7. Thanks for the great ideas Tyler.

I would like to see regular columns by Tyler Hissey, nothing too taxing, just daily or so. :) Hey, we know you have the time, you only write for every baseball site known to mankind, and have a radio show. BTW, don't forget to remind me when you have a new show coming up, I need to do a better job of letting our readers know about them. Nothing better than getting the kids to bed and listening to your show. I love radio (internet included), I can get things done around the house and listen at the same time. Your show is definitely wife-approved.

I'd also like to hear more from Baseball-GURU, he adds a lot of useful information.

  9. Forgot to respond re minor league game box scores and stats, sorry. Here's what I was told by the Rays: "No, unfortunately there are no box scores or official stats kept for minor league spring training games. The main reason is that the format of the games is so informal that it’s impossible to keep track with any type of real box score. They’ll break rules with substitutions, play shorter or longer innings on a whim, etc."

So if you happen to be there, you could keep stats, but they really wouldn't mean much given the context as described above. I have gotten some roster info, which I've been publishing as received.

  10. Hope everyone sees this as it's to an older post ... I attended the last three days of Minor League Spring training games (April 1 -3), one at Sarasota (vs. Reds) and two at Port Charlotte (vs. Reds and vs Oriloes). The games are played on the auxilliary fields at the Team's complex (and there were as many as four occurring simultaneously on adjacent fields), and there are no score boards. Games last 9 innings, but innings are regulated by pitch count so not all last until there are three outs. As for the Low A squad (which I watched exclusively), there were no real standouts in these games, at least at the plate. The wind was blowing in hard for all three games. One note of interest ... in the first game (vs. Reds in Sarasota), the Reds started Aaron Hurang, their 5th starter on the big club, and the guys did OK. I can't say he was bringing his best stuff, but many batters were able to square up and make solid contact, Anthony Scelfo and Mike Sheridan in particular.

  11. Does anyone know how to attend the extended spring training games? I am headed down to see the past years Renegades play on Port Charlotte and wondered if we ould catch a game earlier in the day.

  12. If you are traveling Eastbound on El Jobean Road, (State Road 776), don't go to the main stadium parking lot. Continue and turn right just after the Harley-Davidson dealership (Torrance Street). When this road ends turn left (onto Ester Ave) and you will see the auxilliary fields on your right. There is a gate that should be open that will allow you access to the fields.
