Montgomery Biscuits shut-out Mississippi Braves 4-0

The Game: The Montgomery Biscuits shut-out the Mississippi Braves 4-0 on Tuesday at Riverwalk Stadium. David Newmann kept the Braves offense at bay by throwing 7 2/3 shut-out innings to lead the Biscuits to victory.

The Biscuits broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning. Chris Nowak drew a walk to lead off the inning. Nowak then advanced to third on a double by Matt Fields. Greg Sexton drove home both runners with a double to left that gave the Biscuits a 2-0 lead.

The Biscuits increased their lead in the seventh inning. Craig Albernaz reached on an error with two outs to put a runner on the bases. John Matulia then drove him home with an RBI triple to increase the lead to 3-0.

Montgomery added an insurance run in the eighth inning. Matt Fields and Greg Sexton picked up back to back walks to get things going. Cody Cipriano drove home Fields to secure a 4-0 win.

David Newmann picked up his first win of the season by pitching 7 2/3 scoreless innings and allowed only 4 hits with 7 strikeouts and a walk. Matt Gorgen recorded his fourth save by pitching 1 1/3 innings with a hit and a strikeout.

A Look Ahead: The Biscuits (10-9) wrap up the series against Mississippi Braves (10-9) on Wednesday night. Jeremy Hall (0-1, 2.25) will start against Erik Cordier (1-1, 3.21).
