Bowling Green Hot Rods fall to West Michigan White Cap 6-2

The Game: The Bowling Green Hot Rods drop the series opener against the West Michigan White Caps 6-2 on Wednesday night at Bowling Green Ballpark.

West Michigan jumped out to a two run lead in the third inning. Hernan Perez singled to center to get things started. Perez then scored on a double by Jamie Johnson. Mike Gosse followed with a double to right to score Johnson and give the White Caps a 2-0 lead.

The Hot Rods scored twice in the fourth inning to tie the game. Mayobanex Acosta doubled to right to lead off the inning. Kyle Spraker followed with a single to right to move Acosta to third. Ty Morrison laid down a sac bunt to score Acosta and move Spraker to second. Spraker stole third base and then later scored on a single by Diogenes Luis to tie the game 2-2.

But the White Caps used the long ball to regain the lead in the fifth inning. Elvin Soto and Hernan Perez delivered back to back homers to lead off the inning. Then Jamie Johnson drew a walk and later scored on a single by Mike Gosse to take the lead 5-2.

West Michigan added an insurance lead in the top of the eighth inning. Back to back doubles by Alexis Espinoza and Eric Roof lead to a run, giving the White Caps the 6-2 margin of victory.

Jason McEachern fell to 0-2 with the loss, allowing 5 runs on 8 hits with 5 strikeouts and a walk. Deivis Mavares followed with 4 innings surrendering 1 run on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts. Jairo De La Rosa pitched a no hits ninth with a strikeout.

Hot Rods Player of the Game: Kyle Spraker; 3 for 4 with a run scored and a stolen base.

RP Top Prospect Watch:
Tyler Bortnick: 1 for 5 with a stolen base.
Jason McEachern: 5 runs on 8 hits with 5 strikeouts and a walk in 4 innings.
Ty Morrison: 0 for 3 with an RBI and a strikeout.

A Look Ahead: The Hot Rods (2-5) will take on the West Michigan White Caps (3-4) in game two of the series on Thursday at Bowling Green Ballpark. Shane Dyer (0-0, 1.80) will start against Jacob Turner (0-0, 0.00).
