4/15: The Rundown

Durham Bulls 3, Gwinnett Braves 1 (10 innings)
Box | Recap
Notes: Durham improved to 5-2... Heath Phillips worked 7.2 strong innings for the Bulls, allowing only a solo homerun in the 8th. He got a no-decision, however, as Bulls hitters struck out 15 times and failed to get much going until the 10th... Justin Ruggiano delivered the big hit with a 2-run double in the extra frame... Joe Bateman got the win and Winston Abreu struck out 2 for the save... Ruggiano and Angel Chavez each had two hits...
The Leftovers: Fernando Perez left the game with an injury after an infield hit in the 6th. The resulting defensive shifts left only Elliot Johnson(SS) and Craig Albernaz(C) at their original position... Even considering they are without top prospect Desmond Jennings, the Bulls' offense has underwhelmed so far, but they've gotten the hits when they've needed them...

Montgomery Biscuits 3, Carolina Mudcats 0
Box | Recap
Notes: Montgomery improved to 4-2... Alex Torres turned in another scoreless outing for a Biscuits starter. He went 5 innings, allowed only 1 hit, walked 2, and struck out 8... Eduardo Morlan, Paul Phillips, and Matt Gorgen kept the Mudcats scoreless the rest of the way... Jose Lobaton was 3-4... Matt Fields hit a solo homerun... Emeel Salem and Drew Anderson each had two hits...
The Leftovers: I'll admit I'm warming up on Alex Torres. I still have questions about his control and command, but his stuff is certainly legit. He induced 15 swinging strikes out of 73 pitches today... Biscuits starters in the last four games: 24 innings, 13 hits, 0 runs, 5 walks, 20 strikeouts...

Fort Myers Miracle 2, Charlotte Stone Crabs 1
Box | Recap
Notes: Charlotte dropped to 3-2... Matt Moore started and went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits and 3 walks. He struck out 7... Neil Schenk and Josh Satow each pitched two scoreless innings, combining for 6 strikeouts... Jake Jefferies went 2-4 with a double... Matt Sweeney was 1-3 with a walk... Anthony Scelfo was 1-4 with a double and the only Crabs RBI...
The Leftovers: Matt Moore hasn't been dominant in terms of hits and runs, but his strikeout rate(12.375) is just about in line with his career. He took a while to adjust to a new league last season, and I suspect he'll get on a roll in May or June again... The Stone Crabs bullpen continued its solid work: as a group, their ERA is under 1.00...

West Michigan WhiteCaps 6, Bowling Green Hot Rods 2
Box | Recap
Notes: Bowling Green fell to 2-5... Jason McEachern through 4 innings: 5 hits, 2 runs, 0 walks, 5 strikeouts. Jason McEachern in the 5th: Two solo homeruns, a walk, a single, and a wild pitch(0 outs recorded)... Kyle Spraker collected 3 hits in 4 at bats...
The Leftovers: Not really sure what happened to McEachern in the 5th, but it hurt his overall line for the night. Over two starts, he has 9 strikeouts in 8.2 innings, but needs to limit the baserunners...
