Montgomery Biscuits earn 8-4 win over Carolina

The Game: The Montgomery Biscuits defeated the Carolina Mudcats 8-4 on Thursday night at Five County Stadium. The Biscuits offense posted two big innings in the second and third to held lead the club to victory.

Carolina took the lead in the first inning. Kris Negron double to right with one out to get things going. Negron moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a sac fly by Eric Eymann to take a 1-0 lead.

The Biscuits fought back to take the lead in the second inning. Jose Lobaton singled to short to lead off the inning. Drew Anderson singled to right to move the runner to second. John Matulia followed with a double to right field, scoring Lobaton and moving Anderson to third. Emeel Salem then drove home two runs with a double to give the Biscuits a 3-1 lead.

The Biscuits added to their lead in the fourth inning. Matt Fields singled to center to start the inning. Jose Lobaton then singled to center, scoring Fields. Drew Anderson then singled to center to move Lobaton to second. John Matulia cleared the bases with a three run homer to increase the lead to 7-1.

The Mudcats added another run in the fourth inning. Kris Negron singled to lead off. Negron advanced to second on a throwing error and then to third on a ground out by Eric Eymann. A wild pitch would score Negron for the Mudcats second run of the game.

Montgomery picked up another run in the sixth inning. Greg Sexton delivered a lead off double to left field. Sexton moved to third on a ground out by Matt Fields. Jose Lobaton would drive home the run with a ground out to increase the lead to 8-2.

Carolina picked up a run in the seventh on an RBI single by Jake Kahaulelio and another in the ninth on an error from a Sean Henry grounder. The Biscuits held on to record the 8-4 victory.

Aneury Rodriguez recorded the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with 4 strikeouts and a walk. Justin Garcia followed with 2 innings and allowed 1 run on 2 hits with a strikeout. Ryan Reid pitched the final inning surrendering 1 unearned run while striking out 2 and walking 2.

Biscuits Player of the Game: Greg Sexton; 3 for 4 with 2 doubles, a run scored and a walk.

Shawn O’Malley: 0 for 5 with a strikeout.
Aneury Rodriguez: 2 runs (1 earned), 2 hits, 4 strikeouts, 1 walk in 6 innings.

A Look Ahead: The Biscuits (5-2) will play the Mudcats (4-3) again on Friday night at Five County Stadium. Jake McGee (0-0, 0.00) will start for the Biscuits against Tom Cochran (1-0, 1.50).
