Montgomery Biscuits rally to beat Mobile Bay Bears 5-4

The Game: The Montgomery Biscuits picked up their second consecutive win by defeating the Mobile Bay Bears 5-4 in walk-off fashion on Sunday afternoon at Riverwalk Stadium.

The Biscuits took the lead in the second inning. Cody Cipriano led off the inning with a double to right. Ryan Royster followed with a single to left, moving Cipriano to third. Chris De La Cruz drove home the run with a single to left, scoring Cipriano. Royster later scored on an RBI single by Shawn O'Malley to give the Biscuits a 2-0 lead.

The Biscuits added to their lead in the sixth inning. Cody Strait singled to short then advanced to second with a stolen base. Matt Fields singled to left to move Strait to third. Cody Cipriano plated the run with a single to left to increase the Biscuit lead to 3-0.

Mobile added their first run of the contest in the eighth inning. Jacob Elmore singled to left to get things started. Ollie Linton drove him home with a triple to center for the Bay Bears first run of the game.

The Bay Bears momentum carried into the ninth inning. Collin Cowgill singled to short to lead off the inning. Bryan Byrne followed with a walk. Konrad Schmidt followed by hitting into a force out, losing Cowgill at third but leaving the Bears with runners at first and second. Cyle Hankerd reached on an error, allowing Byrne to score and Schmidt to move to third. Jacob Elmore drove home two runs, including the go ahead run with a single to left to give Mobile a 4-3 lead.

The Biscuit fought back in the bottom of the ninth inning. The game winning rally began with Shawn O'Malley singled to center with two outs. Emeel Salem drove home the tying run with an RBI double to right. Cody Strait then drove home the winning run with an RBI single to score Salem and give the Biscuits a 5-4 walk-off win.

David Newmann pitched 7 shut-out innings, allowing 5 hits and striking out 4. Matt Gorgen was charged with a bad save by allowing 4 runs on 4 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks, but still managed to earn the win.

A Look Ahead: The Biscuits (2-2) and Bay Bears (2-2) wrap up the five game series on Monday at Riverwalk Stadium. Jeremy Hall will start for Montgomery against Barry Enright of Mobile.

  1. Is David Newmann most likely a reliver if he makes the majors?Unless he is traded this organization has so much talent at the Starting spot I really cant see him starting for Tampa Bay which is sad for someone with his talent.
