Montgomery Biscuits beat Mississippi Braves 6-3

The Game: The Montgomery Biscuits defeated the Mississippi Braves 6-3 on Wednesday night at Riverwalk Field. Matt Fields helped fuel the offense by going 3 for 4 on the night with driving in three runs.

The Biscuits took the lead in the second inning. Matt Fields singled with two outs to get things started. Greg Sexton followed with a walk to move Fields to second. Cody Strait drove home the run with a single to left to score Fields and take a 1-0 lead.

The Biscuits added another run in the fourth. Matt Fields doubled to center then later scored on an RBI single by Greg Sexton to take a 2-0 lead.

Mississippi tied the game in the sixth inning. Orlando Mercado led off the inning with a double to right. Travis Jones reached base after being hit by a pitch. Alex Romero then singled to load the bases. Willie Cabrera drove home two with a line drive to center to tie the game 2-2.

The Braves took the lead in the seventh on a solo home run by Cody Johnson. The long ball gave them a 3-2 lead.

The Biscuits battled back to regain the lead in the seventh. Cody Strait and John Matulia drew walks to get the inning going. Then Emeel Slam drove them both home with a two run triple to take a 4-3 lead.

The Biscuits added some insurance in the form of two more runs in the eighth inning. Nevin Ashley reached on a single to center. Then Matt Fields cleared the bases with a two run homer to give the Biscuits a 6-3 win.

Jeremy Hall pitched 5 1/3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 4 hits with 5 strikeouts and a walk. Eduardo Morlan earned the victory with 2 1/3 innings and allowed a run on 3 hits with a strikeout. Paul Phillips recorded his third saves with 1 1/3 scoreless inning allowing a hit with a strikeout.

Biscuits Player of the Game: Matt Fields; 3 for 4 with a double, home run, 2 RBI’s and 3 runs scored.

A Look Ahead: The Biscuits hit the road to take on the West Tennessee Diamond Jaxx on Thursday at Pringles Park. Rayner Oliveros will start for Montgomery against Dan Cortes.
