4/13: The Rundown

Durham Bulls 4, Gwinnett Braves 2
Box | Recap
Notes: Durham improved to 3-2... Carlos Hernandez started and allowed 2 runs over 5 innings of work... Brian Baker(2 innings, got the W), Joe Bateman, and Joaquin Benoit(pitched the 9th for the save) combined for 4 scoreless innings out of the bullpen... All of Durham's runs came in the 7th inning: a wild pitch, a sac fly, and a tie-break 2-run double by Joe Dillon... Angel Chavez picked up three hits...
The Leftovers: Joaquin Benoit worked back-to-back games for the first time this season, including spring. It probably won't be too much longer before the Rays call him up. I'll say before the end of April... Hank Blalock is dealing with a minor hamstring injury...

Montgomery Biscuits 3, Mobile BayBears 2
Box | Recap
Notes: Montgomery improved to 3-2... It was almost a carbon-copy of Sunday's game. Jeremy Hall pitched 7 shutout innings and left with a lead. After a scoreless inning from Rayner Oliveros, Darin Downs blew the save in the 9th, allowing 4 hits and a homerun... The Biscuits rallied for 2 in the bottom of the 9th, scoring on singles by Cody Cipriano and John Matulia... Emeel Salem and Matt Fields had two hits apiece...
The Leftovers: The Biscuits starting staff is clearly the strength of the team, although the offense has come through when it's needed to the past two games... Montgomery will need to figure out a reliable option at the end of the games(Eduardo Morlan, Ryan Reid, Matt Gorgen, and Darin Downs are all candidates)...

Charlotte Stone Crabs off
Notes: Charlotte returns to action on Tuesday at home against Fort Myers...
The Leftovers:

Dayton Dragons 7, Bowling Green Hot Rods 4
Box | Recap
Notes: Bowling Green fell to 1-4... Kyle Lobstein shut out Dayton for 5 innings, but Jairo De La Rosa allowed a run in the 6th and then he and Matt Stabelfeld combined to allow 6 runs in the 7th inning... Lobstein allowed only 2 hits and a walk, striking out 3... Tyler Bortnick was 3-5 with an RBI...
The Leftovers: Ty Morrison has yet to reach base via a hit or walk, but he does have two steals already... Dustin Biell hasn't had much more luck; he's 1-16 on the year...
