Great Lakes posted the first run of the game in the fourth inning. Angelo Songco walked to get things started. JT Wise followed with an RBI double to take a 1-0 lead.
The Loons added to their total in the sixth inning. Rafael Ynoa led off with a single to third. Angelo Songco drove him home with a single to center to increase the lead 2-0.
The Hot Rods battled back to take the lead in the eighth inning. Dustin Biell was hit by a pitch to start the inning. Tyler Bortnick moved Biell to third with a double to center. Both runners scored on a two run double by Brett Nommensen. Eli Sonoqui then singled to right to score Nommensen. Chris Murrill replaced Sonoqui as a pinch runner and stole second and later third. Murrill would then score on a single by Ryan Wiegand to take a 4-2 lead.
The Loons would then strike for five runs in the ninth inning as the Hot Rods fell 7-4.
Kyle Lobstein pitched 5 2/3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits with 3 strikeouts and 3 walks. Mavares pitched 2 1/3 innings and allowed no runs on a hit with 3 strikeouts. Scott Shuman was charged with a bad save and eventually the loss for allowing 5 runs on 4 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks.
