Montgomery Biscuits shut-out Carolina Mudcats 3-0

The Game: The Montgomery Biscuits shut-out the Carolina Mudcats 3-0 in Wednesday night at Five County Stadium. Biscuit’s pitchers combined for a three hit shut-out of the Mudcats to secure the victory.

The Biscuits hit the scoreboard first in the fifth inning. Jose Lobaton doubled to center to lead off the inning. John Matulia drove home the run with a single to left to score Lobaton and give the Biscuits a 1-0 lead.

The Biscuits added to their lead in the sixth inning. Matt Fields struck his second home run of the season with a solo shot to right to increase the lead to 2-0.

Montgomery posted an insurance run in the top of the ninth inning. Emeel Salem doubled to right with two outs to get things started. Drew Anderson knocked him home with a single to second aided by a throwing error to give the Biscuits a 3-0 win.

Alex Torres recorded the win by pitching 5 shut-out innings giving up only 1 run with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks. Eduardo Morlan followed with 2 shut-out innings with 2 hits and a strikeout. Paul Phillips recorded a no-hit inning with a strikeout. Matt Gorgen picked up his first save of the season with a no-hit ninth, striking out two of the three hitters he faced.

Biscuits Player of the Game: Alex Torres; only allowed 1 hit in his 5 shut-out innings with 8 strikeouts.

A Look Ahead: The Biscuits (4-2) take on the Carolina Mudcats (4-2) in game two of the five game series at Five County Stadium on Thursday. Aneury Rodriguez (0-0, 9.00) will start for the Biscuits against Dallas Buck (1-0, 1.50) for Carolina.
