(Rochester, NY) Hank Blalock had four hits and drove in four runs, as the Bulls won a see-saw battle on Tuesday at Rochester, 10-7. Durham split the four-game series, winning the last two.
Blalock's first hit, a two-run double, gave the Bulls a first-inning lead, and Chris Richard's single made it 3-0 Durham. However, Heath Phillips (2-2) allowed five in the bottom of the inning, the last three on Dustin Martin's three-run homer to right. Jason Repko then homered in the second for a 6-3 lead.
Durham answered, as Joe Dillon, Blalock and Ryan Shealy homered in the third inning against Glen Perkins to tie the game at six.
The game remained even until the sixth, when Blalock's fourth hit of the night, a single off Ryan Mullins (2-1) broke a 6-6 tie. Shealy added an RBI hit later in the frame for an 8-6 lead.
Durham extended the advantage to 10-6. in the eighth on Chris Richard's fifth homer of the year. Rochester tacked on a run in the eighth and got the tying run to the plate in the ninth against Dale Thayer with two out, but Dillon made a diving stop to his left on Brian Dinkelman to end the game.
Durham, 17-10, tied fo rthe best record in the IL, finished 3-5 on its road trip. The Bulls host Yankees affiliate Scranton on Thursday at 11:05 a.m. Coverage on 620 the Buzz begins at 10:50 on Thursday morning.
