Signing Deadline Open Thread

(12:14) And with that, I'm off to bed in the interest of not being a zombie at work tomorrow. Continue the conversation in the comments, and I'll try to get a post summarizing everything up tomorrow night.

(12:13) Bonus info on Mahtook:
Jim Callis

(12:11) Bonus info on Guerrieri:

(12:02) Bonus info beginning to trickle out:
Jim Callis

(12:00) Welp, there you go. This will be it for signings besides Matt Ramsey and Blake Grant-Parks. I'm pretty sure both are or have signed, just need an official report at some point:
Marc Topkin

(11:59) More good news, just waiting for word one way or the other on Guerrieri now:
Marc Topkin

(11:58) Excellent news from Marc Topkin:
Marc Topkin

(11:37) Still here, unfortunately nothing new to report. LSU's baseball coach said (via an SPTimesRays RT on Twitter) he hasn't heard anything on Mahtook signing.

(10:54) Good news on the Tyler Goeddel front:
Kevin Goldstein

(10:12) My best guess (and this is ONLY a guess) is that the Rays found something in Garvin's medicals they didn't like after putting him through a physical and that reflects the low bonus figure. BA rated Garvin as the #56 prospect, and other rankings had him close to that, so he wasn't really a reach (like, say, Jeff Ames who got $150k or so less than slot).

(9:59) And Jim Callis has the signing details:
Jim Callis

Our Draft Board will be updated throughout the night. Note that Garvin got well below slot value ($614,700 was slot), so money wasn't holding this deal up.

(9:54) Yup, a whole host of people have confirmed on Twitter: Conor Glassey and John Manuel of BaseballAmerica and College Baseball Daily

(9:51) Better late than never, right? According to what seems to be Grayson Garvin's Twitter, he has signed:

Grayson garvin

Will update this throughout the night, so check back. Also, site Twitter follows: @RaysProspects, @DougMilhoan @KevinGengler and check my "Following" list for a bunch of good sources.

@HappyHour1010 FWIW, USC's Rivals.com site posted story 15 min ago; they expect Taylor Guerrieri to sign with #Rays. http://t.co/UsjBOJn

  2. Cross English off, going to South Carolina as was rumored this morning.

  3. I liked English and I think Mitsui was the hidden gem of this draft, neither will be signed. Please get the other 3 1st rounders signed asap.

  4. Not sure why everyone is go hot on Trevor Mitsui. High school kid already (according to reports) limited to 1B. Not much margin for error with the bat when you can only play 1B or DH.

  5. Any news on Goeddel?

  8. More on Tanner English not signing:

English's high school coach, Robbie Centracchio, said that English was going back and forth with the decision over the last couple weeks. He said English had a flight scheduled to Tampa last week to meet with the team and take a physical but did not end up going.

The offer that English is turning down is 'six-figures'--according to Centracchio.

  9. Its certainly a gamble for these high schoolers they could sign and take the money or they could wait it out see if they can improve their stock. Though that path is far from certain

  10. I wanted English, also, he was after all, the 420th overall pick.

  11. I posted about that Cali drug gang who wore Rays gear at 4:20 the other day, and no one got the joke. Maybe I'm trying too hard...

  12. Hah, I didn't catch that either.

Angels 6th rounder Austin Wood signed for $180k. Didn't the Rays offer like $450k or more last year as a 4th rounder?

  13. I think it was at least 2x slot, which was $213.3k, so around there. 180 isn't bad actually with the year he had. Don't think he played in the Cape this year, that's what boosted his demands so high last year.

  14. and the Guerrieri kid wow

  15. Why pay so much for Goeddel?

    ReplyDelete
  16. Props to the Rays for ponying up and paying all our first rounders.

  17. Anything on Ramsey and Grant-Parks? I have checked every site, blog, etc I can find and see nothing. At this point is it safe to say they did not sign?

    ReplyDelete
  18. I'm just as confused on those two, I never saw anything official either.

  19. Topkin confirms on Twitter that Ramsey signed. Nothing on BGP.
