The Rays have reportedly signed non-drafted free agent RHP Kyle Pelchy, a senior out of Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond:VCU senior and Yorktown native Kyle Pelchy signed a free-agent deal with the Tampa Bay Rays. Pelchy had planned on joining the Air Force following his graduation, but now he’s set to play for the GCL Rays of the Gulf Coast League in Charlotte, Fla.- 22 years old, listed at 6'2", 190 pounds.
- In 2012 was 4-4 with 3.70 ERA over 18 appearances (6 starts). Over 58.1 innings he allowed 69 hits while striking out 36 and walking 14.
- Opponents batted .299 against him in 2012 and .312 in 2011.
- In his VCU career from 2009 to 2012 was 10-8 with a 4.55 ERA. Struck out 94 in 156.0 innings.
Nothing against these free agents! Probably have lots of talent! However, the Rays are so deep in pitching where are these guys going to get innings...when will they start cutting dead weight?
ReplyDeleteShort-season rosters are big, 30 for HV and 35 for Princeton and GCL. So lots of room for dead weight. Lots of these guys are one and done, try out pro ball, quit after the year, or even during. They've had drafted players quit after a game or 2. Might just want to say they played pro ball or don't like the lifestyle, head back to school, etc.
ReplyDeletePlus, pitchers are on lower counts, don't see long outings by starters, lots of piggybacks and so forth. Cast a wide net and see who impresses.
