Three Biscuits Named To Southern League All-Star Team

Shane Dyer
From Joe Davis:

The Southern League today announced its 2012 South Division All-Star Team, highlighted by a trio of Montgomery Biscuits: RHP Shane Dyer, UTIL IF Omar Luna, and DH Kyeong Kang.

Dyer, promoted to triple-A Durham near the end of May, paced the Biscuits starting staff over the season's first two months. After struggling with the Biscuits in 2011, Dyer posted a 4-2 record with a 2.03 ERA in his time in Montgomery in 2012. Because of his promotion, he will not participate in the All-Star Game.

Omar Luna
Luna, a utilityman for the Biscuits, found his way into the lineup toward the end of the first series of the season, and has stuck. The 25-year-old is putting together career numbers in several categories, hitting .300 with 15 stolen bases (already one-short of a career-high). His 28 RBI less than halfway into the season is just three-short of equalling a career-high as well.

Kang, an outfielder and designated hitter for the Biscuits, leads the team with 9 home runs, and is a Southern League All-Star despite a recent cold stretch. After setting several offensive career-bests while with the Biscuits in 2011, he overcame a 3-26 start to help earn the All-Star honors.

There have now been 37 Biscuits in franchise history named Mid-Season All-Stars.
Kyeong Kang
Previous All-Stars of-note include Delmon Young, Evan Longoria, Jeremy Hellickson, Desmond Jennings, Wade Davis, and Matt Moore.

The Mississippi Braves led the South Division with seven selections. The rosters are voted on by the league's managers, GMs, radio broadcasters, and print media.

The 2012 Southern League All-Star Game will be played Tuesday, June 19th, at Smokies Park in Kodak, TN.
