The Game: The Princeton Rays lost the final game of the series with the Danville Braves by the score of 4-2 on Wednesday night. Danville jumped out to a three run lead in the second inning. Osman Marval drew a walk to get things going. Jordan Kreke then single to left to put two runners aboard for the Braves. Matt Weaver delivered a three run homer to clear the bases and give Danville a 3-0 lead.
Princeton hit the scoreboard in the bottom of the third, striking for two runs in the inning. Alejandro Torres led off the inning with a single, then advanced to second on a stolen base. Kyle Spraker singled to center and advanced Torres to third to give the Rays runners on the corner. Cody Rogers followed with an RBI single to score Torres and advanced Spraker to third on the play. Ryan Wiegand then drove home Spraker for the second run of the inning to pull Princeton to within a run of the lead.
Danville added an insurance run in the top of the sixth on an RBI single to Osman Marval that scored Mycal Jones and gave the Braves the 4-2 win.
Julius Dettrich suffered the loss surrendering 4 runs on 4 hits and striking out 3 with 2 walks in 5 2/3 innings on the mound. Alex Koronis pitched the final 3 1/3 innings and did not allow a run on 2 hits with 3 strikeouts and a walk. Brett Overholtzer was the winning pitcher for Danville.
What Went Right: Alex Koronis; 3 1/3 shut-out innings with 3 K’s.
What Went Wrong: Jason Patton; 0 for 4.
A Look Ahead: The Rays kick off the series with the Bluefield Orioles (26-22) with a doubleheader on Thursday night at Hunnicutt Field.
