Princeton Rays shut-out by Burlington Royals

Princeton RaysThe Game: The Princeton Rays were shut-out by the Burlington Royals 3-0 at Hunnicutt Field. Burlington scored first in the second inning. Geulin Beltre struck a solo home run to left field to give the Royals a 1-0 lead.

The Royals picked up two more runs in the eighth inning. Travis Jones doubles to lead off the inning and then advanced to third on a ground out by Jacob Kuebler. Malcom Culver followed with an RBI singled to score Jones for the first run of the inning. Culver later scored on an RBI single by Yowill Espinal to give the Royals a 3-0 victory.

Wilking Rodriguez suffered the loss, allowing 1 run on 1 hit in 4 innings while striking out 1. Joey Callender followed, pitching 3 1/3 innings and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 2. Matt Stabelfeld pitched the final 1 2/3 innings and allowed no runs on a hit while striking out and walking one. Carlos Fortuna was the winning pitcher for Burlington.

What Went Right: Wilking Rodriguez; despite the loss, only allowed 1 hit (a solo homer) and 2 K’s in 4 innings.

What Went Wrong: The Offense; only managed 3 hits and struck out 11 times in the shut-out.

A Look Ahead: The Rays and Royals conclude the series on Tuesday night at Hunnicutt Field.
