Hudson Valley Renegades win big against Tri-City

Hudson Valley RenegadesThe Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades defeated the Tri-City Valley Cats 12-6 on Monday night at Dutchess Stadium. The Renegades broke the scoreless tie in the bottom of the third inning. Dustin Biell singled to right to lead off the inning. Biell then advanced to second on a steal and then to third on a wild pitch. Brett Nommensen followed with an RBI single to score Biell. Nommensen later scored on a single by Mark Thomas to give the Renegades a 2-0 lead.

Hudson Valley added another run in the fourth inning. Bennett Davis singled to get things started. Gabe Cohen followed with a single. Then Davis scored on a ground ball by DJ Jones to increase the lead to 3-0.

Tri-City earned their first run of the night in the fifth inning. Barry Butera doubled to left field followed by a walk issued to Jacob Goebbert. JD Martinez followed with a ground ball to Elias Otero that was misplayed, allowing Butera to score.

The Renegades pushed across seven runs in the fifth inning. Brett Nommensen led off the ining with a singled and then advanced to third on a throwing error. Tyler Bortnick followed with an RBI single to score Nommensen. Bortnick then advanced to second on a wild pitch and later to third on a ground out by Mark Thomas. Eli Sonoqui followed with an RBI double to score Bortnick. Bennett Davis then scored Sonoqui with a triple to right. Gabe Cohen was next up with an RBI single. Cohen advanced to third on an RBI single by DJ Jones. Dustin Biell then doubled to center, scoring Cohen and moving Jones to third. Brett Nommensen then picked up his second hit of the inning, a two run singled to center that put the Renegades ahead 10-1.

Tri-City added another run in the sixth inning. Renzo Tello singled to left and then later scored on a ground ball by Brian Kemp. The Valley Cats struck again in the seventh inning. Sean Barksdale and JD Martinez delivered back to back doubles with Barksdale crossing the plate, 10-3 Hudson Valley lead,

The Valley Cats pushed across three more runs in the eighth inning. Brian Kemp singled to start the inning. Jorge De Leon followed with an RBI double to score Kemp. Sean Barksdale then cleared the bases with a two run home run.

But the Renegades answered back in the bottom of the inning. Gabe Cohen reached base on a wild pitch. DJ Jones followed with a two run homer to give the Renegades the 12-6 win.

Devin Fuller picked up the win, pitching 6 innings and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits while striking out 1 and walking 3. Glen Gibson pitched 2 innings and allowed 4 runs on 5 hits with a strikeout. Doug Salinas pitched a no-hit ninth inning. Zach Grimmett suffered the loss for Tri-City.

What Went Right: Brett Nommensen; 4 for 5 with 3 RBI’s and 2 runs scored. DJ Jones; also 4 for 5 with a home run, 2 RBI's and 2 runs scored.

What Went Wrong: Elias Otero; 0 for 5 with a strikeout at the plate, 2 errors in the field.

A Look Ahead: The Renegades and Valley Cats play face off again on Tuesday at Dutchess Stadium.
