Hudson Valley Renegades drop close game to Mahoning Valley

Hudson Valley RenegadesThe Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades fell to the Mahoning Valley Scrappers 4-3 on Wednesday night at Dutchess Stadium. The Scrappers drew first blood, striking for a run in the first inning. Casey Frawley singled to start the inning and then advanced to second on a steal. Greg Folgia followed with a walk and then both runners advanced on a throwing error. Kyle Bellows drove in the run with a single to left that put the Scrappers ahead 1-0.

The Renegades answered back in the second inning. Mayobanex Acosta led off the inning with a double to left. Elias Otero followed with a single to center to advance Acosta to third. Bennett Davis then delivered a sac fly to right, scoring Acosta and an error by the right fielder allowed Davis to reach base. David Genao drove home the second run with a ground out to short and Gabe Cohen drove home Davis to give Hudson Valley a 3-1 lead.

Mahoning Valley battled back with a three run inning of their own in the third. Casey Frawley singled to left to lead off the inning. Jesus Brito then drew a walk. Ben Carlson doubled to right to score Frawley and Brito. Carlson later scored on a ground ball by Chun-Hsiu Chen and the Scrapper held the 4-3 lead to the end.

Devin Fuller suffered the loss, pitching 2 2/3 innings and allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 1 and walking 4. Doug Salinas followed with 3 1/3 innings allowing 1 hit with 4 strike outs. Bladimir Florentino pitched 2 innings and gave up 3 hits with 2 strikeouts and 2 walks. James Hill pitched a no hit inning to end the game recording a strikeout and a walk. Brett Brach earned the win for Mahoning Valley.

What Went Right: David Genao; 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI.

What Went Wrong: Chris Murrill; 0 for 3 with 2 K’s.

A Look Ahead: The Renegades and Scrappers face off again Thursday night at Dutchess Stadium.
