Hudson Valley Renegades lose to Tri-City Valley Cats

Hudson Valley RenegadesThe Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades dropped a 6-3 decision to the Tri-City Valley Cats on Wednesday night at Dutchess Stadium. The Renegades took the lead in the third inning. Diogenes Luis singled to lead off the inning and then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Chris Murrill. Dustin Biell then singled to put runners on the corners. Tyler Bortnick then reached on a fielder’s choice with Luis being erased at the plate. The first run of the inning followed on an RBI single by Mayobanex Acosta to score Biell. The Renegades then pulled a double steal with Bortnick stealing home and putting the Renegades ahead 2-0.

Tri-City struck for four runs in the fourth inning to take the lead. Jose Altuve led off the inning with a single followed by Jacob Goebbert being hit by a pitch. Erik Castro then reached on an error that allowed Altuve to score. Another error by Hudson Valley led to Goebbert and Castro scoring on a ground ball to third by Renzo Tello. Tello later scored on a single by Pedro Gonzalez as the Valley Cats took a 4-2 lead.

Hudson Valley pulled within one run of the lead in the fifth inning. Tyler Bortnick singled to left and then advanced to third on a throwing error. Mayobanex Acosta delivered a ground ball to score Bortnick.

The Valley Cats added two insurance runs, one in the eighth and another in the ninth inning. In the eighth Jacob Goebbert doubled to center and then scored on an RBI single by Renzo Tello. Then in the ninth it was Jorge De Leon’s triple that got things started and then De Leon later scoring on a ground out by Jose Altuve to give the Valley Cats the 6-3 win.

Alexander Colome was charged with the loss, allowing 4 unearned runs off 4 hits while striking out 4 and walking 1 in 3 2/3 inning. Angel Chapa followed with 4 1/3 innings and gave up a run on 3 hits with 2 strike outs and 2 walks. Bladimir Florentino pitched the final inning and surrendered 1 run on 1 hit with a strikeout. Dallas Keuchel was the winner for Tri-City.

What Went Right: Chris Murrill; 3 for 4 in the leadoff spot.

What Went Wrong: Errors; 2 errors accounted for 4 runs and led to the big inning that put the Valley Cats ahead.

A Look Ahead: The Renegades hit the road to begin a three game series against the Lowell Spinners at LeLacheur Park. Kevin Chavez (1-1) will be making the start for Hudson Valley against Alex Wilson (0-1) for Lowell.
