Hudson Valley Renegades lose to Tri-City

Hudson Valley RenegadesThe Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades lost to the Tri-City Valley Cats 5-3 at Joe Bruno Stadium on Wednesday night. Tri-City scored the first run of the night as they posted a run in the first inning on back to back doubles. Barry Butera doubled to get things started. Then Jacob Giebbert followed with an RBI double to give the Valley Cats a 1-0 lead.

The Renegades countered by posting two runs in the next inning to take the lead. Brett Nommensen singled to short to lead off the inning, then advanced to second on a single by Mayobanex Acosta. Elias Otero followed with a sacrifice bunt to advance both runners into scoring position. David Genao drove home the first run of the inning with a ground ball to score Nommensen. The second run came on a fielding error on Gabe Cohen’s grounder to third to score Acosta and give the Renegades a 2-1 lead.

Hudson Valley increased their lead in the top of the fourth inning. Gabe Cohen delivered a home run to left center that gave the Renegades a two run advantage.

The Valley Cats battled back to retake the lead in the sixth inning. The Cats used five singles and walk to push across three runs. Jacob Goebbert picked up two RBI’s and Erik Castro earned the third as Tri-City took a 4-3 lead.

The Valley Cats added an insurance run in the seventh inning. Brian Kemp led off the inning with a walk then stole second. Barry Butera doubled to right to score Kemp and increase the lead to 5-3, the final margin of victory.

Devin Fuller made the start and went 5 innings, allowing 1 run on 6 hits with 2 strikeouts and 4 walks. Glenn Gibson was charged in with the loss allowing 3 runs on 5 hits with a walk in only 1/3 of an inning. Doug Salinas pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and allowed 1 run on 1 hit while striking out 3 and walking 1. Colton Pitkin was the winning pitcher for Tri-City.

What Went Right: Gabe Cohen; 2 for 4 with a home run.

What Went Wrong: Glenn Gibson; 3 runs on 5 hits and a walk in 1/3 inning.

A Look Ahead: The Renegades try to avoid the sweep on against the Valley Cats on Thursday night at Joe Bruno Stadium.
