Hudson Valley Renegades win against Oneonta Tigers

Hudson Valley RenegadesThe Game: The Hudson Valley Renegades beat the Oneonta Tigers 8-1 on Sunday at Damaschke Field. The Tigers scored their only run in the second inning. Alex Espinoza reached on an error and the later scored on a sac fly by Keith Hernandez to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The Renegades took the lead in the third inning. Diogenes Luis drew a walk to lead off the inning. Luis advanced to second on a single by Chris Murrill and then to third on a wild pitch. Dustin Biell followed with an RBI single to score Luis and advance Murrill to second. Tyler Bortnick was then hit by a pitch to load the bases. Mark Thomas came through with a two run double to put the Renegades ahead 3-1.

Hudson Valley picked up two more runs in the fourth inning. David Genao singled to short to lead off the inning. Genao advanced to second on a sac bunt by Diogenes Luis and then to third on a balk. Chris Murrill followed with an RBI double to score Genao. Murrill later scored on a ground ball by Tyler Bortnick to give the Renegades a 5-1 lead.

Hudson Valley added another run in the fifth. Brett Nommensen and Mayobanex Acosta picked up back to back walks to lead off the inning. The Renegades then pulled off a double steal to move both runners into scoring position. Elias Otero drove home Nommensen with a sac fly to increase the Renegades lead to 6-1.

The Renegades collected two more runs in the sixth inning to complete their scoring drive. Dustin Biell and Tyler Bortnick singled to lead off the inning. They both advanced into scoring position on a wild pitch. Then Mark Thomas hit a two run double to left that gave the Renegades the 8-1 win.

Devin Fuller picked up the victory, throwing 6 innings and allowing 1 run on 1 hit with 2 strikeouts and a walk. Aaron Dott followed with 2 no hit innings with a strikeout. Jordi Amargos pitched the final inning allowing a run and recording a strikeout.

What Went Right: Dustin Biell; 4 for 4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.

What Went Wrong: Errors; Renegades charged with 4 errors on the night.

A Look Ahead: The Renegades take on the Oneonta Tigers in game two of the series at Damaschke Field on Monday night. Kyle Lobstein (3-4) will pitch against Clemente Mendoza (4-4)
